However, it will have to wait...bringing in demons involves doing work for the Monarchs and having them give you the capacity for it. I had to ask them for Beelzebub so I could summon him.

But the moment you do, come to me so I can show you. Relying on technology for that isn't suitable for someone like you.

What kind of work do the Monarchs want?

Well, it really all depends...in my case, a war occurred about a year ago between both courts. I was rewarded for fighting and trying to rescue the jabberwock, even if it was a failure in the end.

It's best to keep your ear out. I believe some of the more influential members of the courts offer quests, but the work itself depends on who issues it. Completing it to gain the monarch's favor is what opens up the chance for reward.

[Fighting's definitely not an option for Mirai. Especially not without her demons. If Mama couldn't complete the goal, there's no way she'd have been able to.]

I'll listen. I'm not sure what else there is to do here yet.

If you'd like to stay out of the fighting, I can make arrangements. The same goes for whether or not you'd like to learn how to fight and get involved. Either way, papa will support you 100%.

You can't go into Seelie territory without consulting me first. The Seelie will try to hurt you, and some of the Unseelie might hurt you for it too. A lot of people here take the war very seriously.

[Like Lucifer, but the "I won't tell if you don't" attitude is better for gaining leverage. Everyone who jumps to KILL is an idiot as far as she's concerned.

Though Mirai is, of course, exempt from that attitude. She wouldn't use her daughter like that.]

It's really a shame she can't summon all of them now. For her Papa she would - and did - fight demon lords and archangels. She'd be way more helpful with them around.]

Innnnnnn any case, once they're back at the feast they can take a look at what's on offer more closely.

"Hot root soup with garlic-cheese bread to dip in stands next to steaming platters of crispy lemon trout, oat farls and baked gammon provide a litter of succulent rosemary-slathered dishes around roasted boar and venison. Vegetables are piled high in their dishes, taters come mashed with turnips, roasted in gravy and thick in the hen 'n' butternut squash pies. All very rich, all very tempting (to everyone who isn't Lucifer anyway.) She finds two empty seats beside each other at a table for the pair of them.]

Oh, the feast for new arrivals is all on the monarchs. You don't have to pay for any of it, so take as much as you like.

Or that is to say Berserker's gonna need to shell out for his new secondary master. The fact Lucifer costs next to nothing to keep around should make it a little easier at least.]

[Yeah, unfortunately the idea of "don't make kids do too much until they're old enough" doesn't register with Lucifer. She wouldn't mind supporting her like an actual parent should if that's what Mirai wants, but if she also wants to look into doing work she...would support her to do that too...

That'll depend on if you find something you think you'd like to do, Mirai. You'll be living with me, and I don't really need to spend money on myself too often, so I'll be able to afford to take care of you until then. You don't have to worry about too much so long as Mama is by your side.

[This is still just...really strange.

She's used to having people want to succeed in order to gain her favor, but it's usually for entirely different reasons. For her blessing, her support to change the world, even just the desire for subjects to please their King...but the very notion of the embodiment of chaos having a child who wants to make her proud for such a simple reason is. Well.

Lucifer's experienced a lot of strange things, she's a very strange thing herself, but it's hard to find words to actually describe this sometimes. The fact that her time separate from Mirai is much greater than the time she spends with her means it'll probably never be something she's used to entirely either.]

[Even so, she decided the strange feelings she gets from the whole parent thing aren't all that bad. If they were, she wouldn't have bothered putting time aside to see her in the first place.]

You've done so much already, you know. I could never stop being proud of you.

[Like really killing angels, helping Lucifer and protecting Makai separately are all things that win Lucifer's approval. She's done all three, so.]

Anyway, I'm not so sure about school...it's likely they want to encourage shardbearers to participate in the war, and native schools wouldn't accept you. [Literally and otherwise. Ain't throwing precious daughter into that kind of environment even if she is half-devil. Lucifer has to be wary of anti-shardbearer sentiment too, so.] We can think about it together later on. For now, you should just enjoy the rest of the festivities. It's only your first day after all!

[She punctuates that with a laugh, but she knows that drive is likely something she got from Lucifer so it isn't like she doesn't understand.]
