[ slow is pretty nice and the tairas will take it. sometimes you gotta appreciate those times where recolle isn't turning things up to eleven for the whole month. ]
I have to ask, why is this sort of stuff out so early here? You'd think the holidays were a month or two ahead like this.
[ Halloween seems like a holiday Aki would like though. Playing pranks, scaring people, marathoning old horror games. He remembers Halloween last year being kinda fun.
So, he'll be the enabling little brother for her, looking at the window too. Then tugging at her arm. ]
Let's check it out, everything's in stock and there won't be be anyone scrambling for party supplies like later in October.
Some stores have had little bits of Christmas here and there tucked away into the corner for a while now. It'll slowly expand come November like a rapidly growing mold that just makes us slightly more resentful of it every week.
[And that sucks? Christmas last year was really great; having the whole family stay in her place, surrounding herself with Sakura, Yato, Yagen and Kouran for the holidays. It was the highlight of the year. She was at her absolute happiest...internally.
[Anyway, that's enough of that. She heads inside, with a little motion sensor at the door emitting a witch's laugh as they pass by it, only it's pretty bad quality. It was probably recorded like 20 years ago and sounds bitcrushed to all hell. ...maybe that adds to the spookiness though. The unknown. The unintelligible. The poorly maintained sound files.
Immediately she heads for the display closest to the door. And lifts this off of the shelf.]
[ Like a mold... That's truly a young adult who has lived on her own in a commercial heavy modern city... AKA Recolle. Yanagi jokingly shudders at the horror like he's imagining the holidays infesting a department store from a simple shelf. He doesn't react too much to creepy cryptic witchlauqh.wav, sadly. He's too old to be afraid of that, too young to find its age amusing. RIP this age range. ]
That looks like Mother's last personal assistant before she quit. It would be scary at night, but in here? Not so much.
[ Is is bright in there, as stores are to make the merchandise bright and price tags easy to see. ]
Oh, yeah. [She turns it around in her hands, looking it over from the front.] I guess it does look like suitable company for her after all.
[The store is lit appropriately for shoppers rather than the Halloween atmosphere, but they're cheap, harsh white lights. It's kind of depressing.
She hangs the witch back on the shelf either way.]
Well, it's not like I can buy too much today. [She can't spend all her money here and end their shopping trip early...] But if there's anything good I'll make a note of it. At the very least, I want something I can hide under Sakura's side of the covers tonight.
[So when she pulls it off to go to sleep...bam...]
[ Harsh, sterile, and really kills the mood for to terrors to prepare for terrorism]
We have a month and more of a shopping trip to burn cash on, yeah
[ Yanagi isn't surprised that the witch gets put back, but moving down the aisle he definitely eyes this shelf full of differently shaped black cat pillowd. The one in his arms is in a signature "loaf" shape with unnaturally bright, sparkly eyes. He actually has to uses his hands to cover and check that. ]
...Is it unlucky to find a black cat taking up your bed instead of crossing your path?
[ Boy that ain't scary, even if the eyes are huge and Sakura is a dog person. ]
[Outside of the city, some kind of anomaly had caused a forest to appear. Completely unlike the cityscape of recolle, the forest was ethereal in its existence; with a fantastical atmosphere and bizarre fauna found nowhere on Earth, it was like she'd wandered straight into a fairy tale.
She hated it. Not because she was lost with no idea how she'd even ended up there, but simply because Akinobu Taira is neither a princess to be rescued or a gallant knight to do the rescuing. She's completely unfit to be here...and yet the further into the forest she goes, she finds herself forgetting things. It's subtle to begin with, but the further she wanders in the more a haze starts to set in her mind, before stripping her of everything completely. Her name and her identity lost, she encounters a strange woman who grants her a new name, as well as a means of recovering herself...and then returns her to the city.
It's for this reason that Aki doesn't come home. Long enough that it'd be a cause for concern, for Sakura to come looking for her.
And when she does eventually find Aki somewhere in the city, Sakura will happen upon her face to face with a monster, looking exhausted from having ran from it, from the looks of things.]
Alright...I give up...I don't wanna keep running, so you...you just go ahead and eat me...geez...my legs are killing me...
[ Sakura was concerned. More so than usual. Normally if Aki disappeared for days on end, it would be because she chose to do so. But this was before they were living together and before they were going out. Times were now different.
Which is why when disappeared for one day, verging on two - Sakura decides to take things in her own hands. She tucks her phone in her pocket and runs out, dressed in a simple turtleneck and skirt for ease of movement. She nearly runs out of the house without her sword, but realises... this might be the time to bring it with her. She slings it behind her back and makes haste towards the edge of the city, where it borders with forest.
She steps on the stony path and the ground makes a hollow sound that echoes. She winces. Everyone could hear where she's stepping at this ratea. Treading carefully, she proceeds through the dark walkways, hopefully she won't have to yell to find Aki or else -- ]
Oh no!
[ She spots a monster attacking a small hunched over figure. It didn't matter who it was, she had to save them. ]
Hyaaaaaah!
[ Blade swift as light, Sakura submits to her instincts. One slash, two, three. She slices the monster into nonexistence and it disappears in a black haze. ]
[Strangely, when she tries to address her as Aki, no sound comes out of Sakura's mouth.
Aki simply ignores it, having watched her saviour cut down the monster chicken and rescue her. Neat.]
...I can't say I expected my life to turn into one of those shounen anime plots where I'm rescued by a mysterious sword wielding girl from a monster. I think I'm a little too old for protagonist material.
[She's caught her breath by this point, straightening up with a deep exhale.]

Oh, yeah. I guess I'm late putting up the Halloween stuff this year.
[It isn't even October...]

Thanks for the save, though.
